Knob: yes I've seen more pf that quote, and put it up, or something like it, somewhere on my old blog, about whipping saves who ran away. Or whipping them, in what seems a counterproductive measure, to make them happier and stay. Weird. We are probably justifying somethings we do in the present age in similar way, things that we don't notice are wrong or unsustainable due to habit or childhood brainwashing, that will be roundly/squarely condemned as barbaric in a hundred years time. Like going to church, or eating Madras curries and then getting on an airplane, or driving automobiles for that matter.
